Urumqi - Turpan (Amazing area) - Two day tour
This is one of the hottest tours around Urumqi. Turpan is famous for its mysterious history and ancient cities. It is most worthwhile to visit the area when you are in Urumqi. You will learn a lot about ancient Uyghur history and civilization. A visit to Idkut ancient city in particular can bring a fascinating insight into the glorious past of prior Uyghur civilizations.
Day 01
Our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00am local time and drive two hours to Turpan. Along the way we will visit the Flaming Mountains made famous during Xuan Zang's Journey to the West. In Turpan we will visit the Emin Tower, the areas famous underground Karez system and Yargul (Gaochang ) ancient city. Dinner will be in the nearby Grape Valley with a local Uyghur song and dance performance. After time there we will return to the hotel - either the 3 Star Oasis hotel or Turpan Fandian (also 3 Star).
Day 02
After breakfast, we will visit the ancient city of Idkut (Jiao he ), the Astana Tombs and Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves before having lunch in a nearby village. After lunch you will have two hours free time to walk around the village. At 3:00pm local time, we will return back to Urumqi. Back in Urumqi, we also have the opportunity to make an optional short stop at the Dong Korok local market.
